Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy was a German composer and conductor of the early Romantic period (1809–1847). He is celebrated for his oratorios Elijah and St. Paul, his Violin Concerto in E minor, and the incidental music to A Midsummer Night's Dream. He also played a pivotal role in reviving interest in the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
