Pietro Mascagni

Pietro Mascagni (1863–1945) was an Italian composer and conductor, and a key figure of operatic verismo. He achieved worldwide fame with his one-act opera Cavalleria rusticana (1890), which won a prestigious competition. He composed fifteen operas in total, but none matched the enduring success of his debut work.
