Operetta Splendour and the Art of Song

Two worlds, one concert: English art song meets German operetta - a programme that bridges contrasts and shines in an unexpected light.

The evening opens with Ralph Vaughan Williams' Songs of Travel, presented in a newly created arrangement for soloist, choir and piano. This special version receives its world premiere as part of the Stuttgarter Chortage. Baritone Johannes Held takes the solo role, bringing depth and expression to the poetic cycle of wandering songs. Olga Wien accompanies at the piano, shaping the finely nuanced keyboard part of the work.

The second half shifts to a different musical world: Paul Lincke's operetta Frau Luna whisks the audience into a glittering setting full of Berlin charm, wit and high spirits. Lively, buoyant and packed with familiar tunes, the work is presented in a special version that also makes its premiere in this form. Birgit Quellmelz joins as narrator, adding theatrical presence and comic edge to the operetta scenes.
