Georges Bizet: Carmen - Opera in Four Acts

Bizet's Carmen, a student-led production, takes the stage at Wilhelma Theater in Stuttgart on Friday, 24 July 2026 at 19:00. This is one of nine German dates for the opera. The theater, built in the mid-nineteenth century as part of the Moorish Wilhelma complex, now serves as one of the venues for Staatsschauspiel Stuttgart. Young artists handle scenography, costumes, orchestra, chorus, and all solo roles, reinterpreting the Carmen myth through the lens of contemporary gender relations. The production explores the tension between freedom and love as Don José risks his modest career and engagement to Micaëla against a demonic seductress.
