"Letters From A Black Widow" is the follow-up to "Baby, I'm Hollywood!" (2021), which earned critical acclaim for its blend of funk, rock, blues, and soul. Record Collector described it as "breathtakingly kaleidoscopic," while Echoes awarded it "Album of the Year" in a five-star review. Yet while that album told the carefree coming-of-age story of a mixed-heritage child in California's bohemian life, "Letters From A Black Widow" is a powerful battle cry - a soulful funk-gospel opus, spectacularly written, arranged, and performed by Hill.

Although Hill plays many of the instruments herself, the new album is not a pure solo project. Built on an unshakeable musical foundation that has accompanied her throughout her life, Hill's band consists of her parents - bassist Robert "Peewee" Hill and keyboardist Michiko Hill. They are also supported by John Staten (drums and percussion), Daniel Chae (strings), and a group of friends on backing vocals.
