MAXJOSEPH - Lagom — Kloster Fürstenzell, Fürstenzell

The lightest things are the hardest - violin, Styrian accordion, guitar and tuba: four virtuoso musicians weave a dynamic, chamber-music tapestry that blossoms with an elegance and lightness you would never expect from folk music.

Jazz glimmers through the improvisations, classical training shows in the flawless ensemble playing, and the wide-ranging references reveal four cosmopolitans who are, at the same time, naturally rooted in their homeland. This music resists easy categorisation and leaves listeners in a state of happy confusion.

Maxjoseph's music is more than a synthesis of classical and popular, old and new, folk and concert-hall - it is an invitation to a dialogue where boundaries blur, yet you always remain grounded, anchored to home.

"Lagom" is the title of Maxjoseph's new album and programme - music that connects tradition and the present with a fine sense of balance. Inspired by the Swedish concept of "just the right amount", it creates a distinctive sound between holding on and letting go: light-footed, elegant and full of character. Jazz openness, classical precision and a broad musical horizon combine with deep roots in the homeland to produce a contemporary folk music that defies all categories.

Maxjoseph are:
Georg Unterholzner - guitar
Andreas Winkler - Styrian accordion
Nathanael Turban - violin
Florian Mayrhofer - tuba
