DOD - the programme that was so abruptly halted by the pandemic in March 2020 - returns in spring 2025 in a revised version. A handful of performances and growing audience demand led Gerd Dudenhöffer to consider reviving it.
DOD
Das Leben ist das Ende
Gerd Dudenhöffer as Heinz Becker
Church bells from a cemetery. Sonorous. Gloomy. Then suddenly cold white light. Heinz Becker comes home - from the funeral straight into the kitchen. Black suit, five calla lilies in hand: "I forgot to throw them into the grave." So now they sit on the kitchen table. What can you do!?
"Want another beer?" - the question that used to come naturally. Now he has to decide for himself. Familiar routine? Gone. Nothing is the way it was. His everyday life - collapsed. And on top of it all, the grief. A heavy, brooding sadness. An awkward helplessness. And slowly he begins to muse, to reflect, to work through it all...
DOD is theatrical "cabaret noir" - tightly directed, black and white, light and dark, carefully balancing tragedy and comedy. Tragicomic, in the truest sense. Because Heinz is Heinz. "Dead certain".
