Arktos, a terrible snowman, seeks to cover the world in ice. The old dragon Tyrion prepares his young son Tabaluga for his destined task - to protect the world. To accomplish this, Tabaluga must find the True Fire; only then can he put an end to Arktos's schemes.

Tabaluga sets out on his journey with the help of a wizard. He faces many dangers, such as the spider woman Tarantula, but also discovers beautiful things. He learns that a world filled with both good and evil is worth saving. Yet Arktos does not give up - he creates a beautiful being from pure ice, the girl Lilli, to distract Tabaluga from his mission.
