Wir & Jetzt

"Wir" ("we") starts with two - a family, a band, a nation, the whole planet. For the musicians of Federspiel, "wir" encompasses the knowledge of every generation before us. We, here and now, are the youngest part of a long story.

"Jetzt" ("now") means, for the seven musicians, the right cue, the timing, and the magic of the moment. The instant between past and future is the only space in which we can act to move things and people.

These ideas inspired Federspiel's new programme: Wir & Jetzt sets the great questions of our time to music. It is a call to tackle the pressing problems of our planet together, and right now. At the same time, Wir & Jetzt promises that, in the moment of the concert, music will stop time and forge a connection with the audience that touches everyone - and, ideally, changes them.

The craft of the mixed wind ensemble has ripened over more than two decades: inclusion over demonstration, light-footed virtuosity instead of showy acrobatics. No grandstanding - just compositions that provoke thought and move the heart. That is what sets Federspiel apart. And that is exactly what Wir & Jetzt is.

Creativity, spontaneity, and musical wit are the hallmarks of Federspiel. Since its founding in 2004, the ensemble has grown steadily, developing a transparent, richly layered musical language. A heavyweight in the art world with featherlight compositions in its repertoire, Federspiel has long graced the world's most prestigious stages - the Golden Hall of the Wiener Musikverein, the Berliner Philharmonie, the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, the Vancouver Island Music Festival, and Stanford University.
