"Forum N", the hr-Sinfonieorchester's concert series for 20th- and 21st-century music, comes to Hanau for this edition. With internationally acclaimed German composer and conductor Matthias Pintscher on the podium, the programme pairs a landmark of early modernism with two recent orchestral works.
Slovenian composer Vito Žuraj found the creative spark for "Anemoi" - premiered by the Berlin Philharmonic in 2024 - in the relief carvings of the eight wind gods from Greek mythology on the Tower of the Winds at the Roman Agora in Athens. From the same cultural and geographical sphere of eastern Central Europe, and the same generation, comes Márton Illés, born in Hungary in 1975. He wrote the latest addition to his "-tér" series (Hungarian for "-space") for the unusual combination of four solo saxophones and orchestra: "Saxotér" had its premiere in 2025 with the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet, and the world's leading ensemble of its kind now brings it to the hr-Sinfonieorchester. After the interval, Matthias Pintscher conducts a suite from Igor Stravinsky's vivid, powerful ballet score "The Firebird", the work that launched the then 28-year-old Russian composer to fame in Paris.
Concert duration: approx. 115 minutes, including interval
