Gisela Kuckuck has had enough of her husband Erwin's constant grumbling. The early retiree is a proper grouch who spends all day making life miserable for his wife and their ambitious son.

Encouraged by her best friend Ilonka, Gisela decides to take charge of her own life and return to her old trade as a hairdresser. When Claudio Randazzo, the owner of the Primavera hair salon, responds to her application, the Kuckuck household is in for some serious turbulence.
