JONTEF means festive day - a celebration of music, theatre and stories about human encounters, love, loss and reconciliation. Through words alone and virtuoso command of their instruments, Jontef brings back to life the exuberant joy, wry humour and melancholy of the shtetl world. The ensemble has shaped the development of Eastern European klezmer music and won numerous awards for it (including the Internat. Bodensee-Künstlerbegegnung prize).
