In early 1990s New York, life seems perfect for Sam Wheat and Molly Jensen. They are young, in love, and have just moved into their shared home - a loft full of dreams and plans for the future. Sam works as a successful banker, while Molly is a talented artist who expresses her love of life through her sculptures. But the couple's happiness is short-lived: a brutal street attack takes Sam's life. In an instant, a love story becomes a moving journey between two worlds.

Sam awakens - but his body remains motionless. He is a ghost, trapped between life and death, invisible to everyone he loves. In desperation, he tries to comprehend reality.
