Sternhagelschwäbisch

Highlights of dialectal humor.

Besides his remarkably successful legal cabaret, Werner Koczwara has been delighting audiences for years with his Swabian-dialect programs. "For a Handful of Trollinger", "How Apes Became Savers", and "Muggabatscher ond Bombobabierle" are hallmarks of Swabian humor.
"Sternhagelschwäbisch" is far more than a cheerful collection of familiar and brand-new highlights. What has emerged is a program of breathtaking wit density, a cabaret work that digs deep and is utterly hilarious, with a slight lean toward artistic anarchy: we ride an elevator down to hell, where a completely overwhelmed devil awaits us. We meet death, burdened by serious alcohol problems. And along the way, we also learn how Swabian terms of endearment can drive men and women to madness. The audience after the premiere was completely delighted and unanimous: "Sternhagelschwäbisch" is probably the funniest cabaret since Swabians have existed. The program is performed in easily understood Oxford-Swabian. As an encore, there is regularly a language lesson in which disputed terms are explained. By then, dramatic scenes unfold in the audience. An evening of very great humor.
