WunderWelten at Augustinum: Iceland - Live Reportage by Dirk Bleyer

National Geographic photographer Dirk Bleyer has been travelling to Iceland every year for nearly a decade, spending months at a time exploring its most remote corners in every season. He returns with images full of wonder and raw natural power.

On a snowmobile he races across ice fields at minus 20 degrees toward the erupting volcano with the unpronounceable name Eyjafjallajökull. On an Icelandic horse he rides along beaches and through surf, and by kayak he visits the charming puffins. Driven by sheer adventure, Bleyer spends days crossing dangerous glacier crevasses in three "super jeeps", or hikes 50 km along what is called the world's most beautiful trekking route. Seventy-year-old pilot Omar Ragnarson whisks him off on a daring flight in a rusty Cessna, and with the large family of a sheep farmer he joins the legendary celebration after the annual sheep round-up.

Bleyer's humorous, up-to-date and visually stunning Iceland multi-vision show is a tribute to this island at the edge of the habitable world.
