Loosely based on Wilhelm Hauff's 1828 story of the same name, the 1958 film comedy "Das Wirtshaus im Spessart" became a hit with Liselotte Pulver in the lead role. The 1976 musical followed, drawing freely from that film's screenplay and featuring melodies by Franz Grothe, who had already composed the original film score. Catchy tunes like "Ach, das könnte schön sein" and "Man kann die Liebe nicht erklären" have turned this colourful, charming show into a lasting favourite of musical entertainment theatre.
