SINNE EEG & THOMAS FONNESBÆK - Jazz im Pappelgarten — TheMu e.V., Der Pappelgarten, Reutlingen

Sinne Eeg (voc)
Thomas Fonnesbæk (b)

Sinne Eeg & Thomas Fonnesbæk are an unusual duo. They take on one of the most demanding forms of music-making: staying entirely true to themselves. No band, no sonic staging - just voice and double bass. This reduction demands courage, precision, and profound musical trust.

Sinne Eeg ranks among Scandinavia's leading jazz voices. The Danish singer has won the Danish Music Award three times for "Best Danish Vocal Jazz Album of the Year" (for Waiting for Dawn, Don't Be So Blue, and Face the Music). In 2014, she also received the prestigious Ben Webster Prize and the Prix Billie Holiday. Her generation, born in 1977, represents jazz deeply rooted in the American tradition while bearing a distinctive Nordic character. With her warm, dark voice, Eeg merges the atmosphere of a classic jazz club with Scandinavian clarity and melancholy. International audiences regard her as one of the outstanding jazz singers of her era.

At her side stands Danish bassist Thomas Fonnesbæk, one of the most prominent exponents of the Scandinavian jazz bass tradition. He has collaborated with Italian pianist Enrico Pieranunzi, among others. Fonnesbæk impresses with technical fluency, melodic expressiveness, and an extraordinarily beautiful tone. His playing provides not only a solid foundation for the voice but also introduces independent solo accents.

In their interplay, a remarkable spaciousness emerges. Both listen to each other intently, respond immediately, and develop the music in the moment. Voice and bass enter an open dialogue - concentrated, spontaneous, and at the same time full of elegance. The result is a musical encounter that, in its reduction, resonates with intensity and makes the essence of jazz audible.
