He downloads baby apps for his wife and bakes a "mummy cake" for family coffee gatherings. Then there's a wedding to attend - eco-friendly and vegan, naturally. But it's hard to feel festive when you're supposed to throw unpeeled wholegrain rice at the happy couple.

Grandparenthood does solve a few old problems, though.
