A tip is what you give a waiter when you're happy with the service. Germans, however, often seem less than thrilled with their server's efforts and would rather save their money - but for what, exactly? Perhaps for the looming electricity bill, the decades-long education of their children, or a suitably respectable burial plot. Who knows.

In the programme "Trinkgeld darf auch knistern", Anke Geißler plays Monika Weingeist - a waitress who serves up a feast of hybrid seasoning, natural flavour and crispy variety. A whole cast of characters drops by the restaurant to chat, bluster and sing until the place crackles with life.
