The World of Tove Jansson - Expert-Led Tour with Lisa Frühbeis

For over 80 years, the Moomins created by Finnish artist Tove Jansson have invited us to view the world with curiosity and an open heart. What began as a drawing experiment by a young political cartoonist became a cultural universe where empathy, courage, and subversive humor set the tone. The exhibition at Literaturhaus München presents Tove Jansson and her iconic characters comprehensively for the first time, revealing an artistic body of work that extends far beyond Moominvalley. The exhibition captures that distinctive blend of poetry and anarchy, comfort and resilience that has touched generations of readers: a cosmos that reminds adults of their inner child while reigniting imagination.

This tour is explicitly not aimed at children, but is recommended for teenagers and adults aged 14 and up who wish to discover Tove Jansson as a versatile artist - along with the timeless messages of her beloved, stubborn trolls.

LISA FRÜHBEIS, born in 1987, studied in Paris, Urbino, and Augsburg. Her work engages with power and privilege from a feminist perspective. Her debut book, the feminist comic strip collection "Busengewunder" (Carlsen Verlag), won the Max und Moritz Prize for Best German Comic Strip. She has also received the Bavarian Art Promotion Prize for Literature and a 3x3 New York Illustration Merit Award.

As a child, she spent hours studying Moomin drawings. In 2021, she participated in an artist residency in Sweden focused on Tove Jansson's life, and in 2022 created an artistic documentary comic about her life for the feminist comic exhibition "Vorbilder*innen".
