Hugh John Mungo Grant (born 9 September 1960, London) is an English actor and producer whose career spans four decades. He broke through with Richard Curtis's Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), winning both a Golden Globe and a BAFTA, and spent the 1990s and 2000s as the defining face of British romantic comedy - Notting Hill, Bridget Jones's Diary, Love Actually. Since the 2010s he has steadily reinvented himself as a character actor, taking on villains, eccentrics and dramatic leads in projects ranging from A Very English Scandal to the A24 psychological thriller Heretic (2024), for which he earned Golden Globe, BAFTA and Critics' Choice nominations.
Grant reprised his role as Daniel Cleaver in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, released on 13 February 2025.
Heretic (A24), in which Grant plays the villain Mr. Reed, grossed $60 million worldwide on a $10 million budget and earned him Golden Globe, BAFTA and Critics' Choice Best Actor nominations.
Paddington in Peru, featuring Grant in a cameo as Phoenix Buchanan, surpassed $150 million at the global box office.
A Guardian report noted that Grant personally wrote the Paddington in Peru post-credits scene featuring his character Phoenix Buchanan.
Heretic premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on 8 September 2024 and was released in the US by A24 on 8 November 2024.
