Monica Vitti (1931-2022) was an Italian actress who rose to international prominence through her collaboration with director Michelangelo Antonioni. She starred in his alienation trilogy - L'Avventura, La Notte and L'Eclisse - and later proved equally at home in comedy, becoming one of the defining faces of Italian cinema in the 1960s and 70s.
