DAN PETER SUNDLAND QUINTETT - Contemporary Modern Jazz

Chris Pitsiokos as / Camila Nebbia ts / Johannes Schleiermacher ts, bs / Dan Peter Sundland e-b, comp / Moritz Baumgärtner dr

Dan Peter Sundland's idea of a good time: joyful, groovy free jazz with three saxophonists and an explosive rhythm section.

The concept behind the project name is not a golf club, not a Caribbean cruise - it's the ecstatic interplay of three strong, individual saxophonists, each with their own voice, over Sundland's colourful compositions, carried by a rhythm section with a pronounced sense of groove.

Chris Pitsiokos is known for collaborations with central figures of the New York scene, and is also active as a bandleader and composer. Camila Nebbia has played with Michael Formanek, Angelica Sanchez, Tom Rainey and Susana Santos Silva, and is regarded as one of the most distinctive voices in the current improvisation and free jazz scene. Johannes Schleiermacher, known from projects like Training and Shake Stew, brings an expressive tenor voice and bridges the rhythm section with groovy baritone lines.

The rhythm section consists of Dan Peter Sundland on electric bass - who also contributes compositions and has collaborated with Jim Black, Frank Gratkowski, Liz Kosack and Chris Pitsiokos among others - and Moritz Baumgärtner on drums, known from Melt Trio and TAU.
