Johann Strauss II (1825–1899) was an Austrian composer and conductor, widely known as the "Waltz King". He composed hundreds of dance pieces, the most famous being the waltz The Blue Danube. His operetta Die Fledermaus (1874) is one of the most frequently performed works in the operetta repertoire worldwide.
