Miles Davis (1926–1991) was an American jazz trumpeter and composer, one of the most influential figures in the history of jazz. He helped shape styles including cool jazz, modal jazz, and jazz fusion. His album Kind of Blue (1959) remains one of the best-selling jazz recordings of all time.
