Aida is an opera by Giuseppe Verdi, first performed in Cairo in 1871. Set in ancient Egypt, it tells the story of the tragic love between the Egyptian commander Radamès and the Ethiopian princess Aida. It is one of the most frequently performed operas in the world repertoire.
