Ajda Pekkan (born 12 February 1946 in Istanbul) is Turkey's most enduring pop icon, active on stage since the early 1960s and known throughout the country simply as "Superstar". She has sold over 15 million records in Turkey alone and was the first Turkish artist to perform at the Olympia in Paris. The French government awarded her the Officier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and the Turkish Ministry of Culture named her a State Artist in 1998.
