Al-Sirah Al-Hilaliyyah is a vast Arabic oral epic tracing the migration of the Banu Hilal tribe from the Arabian Peninsula to North Africa. The tradition of its performance dates back at least to the medieval period, and UNESCO has inscribed it on its list of intangible cultural heritage. The narrative weaves together heroic deeds, love stories and sung poetry.
