Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin (1799–1837) was a Russian poet, prose writer and playwright, widely regarded as the founder of modern Russian literature. He is celebrated for his verse fairy tales, including The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish (1833). His works continue to be adapted for theatre and film around the world.
