About
Amorphis is a Finnish metal band founded in Helsinki in 1990 by guitarist Esa Holopainen, guitarist Tomi Koivusaari, and drummer Jan Rechberger. Starting out as a death metal act, they gradually wove in progressive, folk, and psychedelic elements - drawing heavily on the Finnish national epic Kalevala for their lyrics. Landmark albums such as Tales from the Thousand Lakes (1994) and Eclipse (2006) cemented their reputation, and with 15 studio records to their name they remain one of the most consistently creative bands in European heavy metal.
