Grammy Award-winning artist Angélique Kidjo performs at Kölner Philharmonie in Cologne.
Angélique Kidjo, born on 14 July 1960 in Ouidah, Benin, is a singer-songwriter, actress and humanitarian whose music weaves together West African traditions with funk, jazz, R&B and Latin influences. She sings in Fon, Yorùbá, French, English and Gen-Mina, and has won five Grammy Awards - more than any other African solo artist. Beyond the stage, she serves as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and founded the Batonga Foundation to support girls' education across Africa.
Kidjo made history on 18 August 2026 as the first Black African performer to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Her new album HOPE!! was released on 24 April 2026 via Parlophone/Warner Music France, featuring collaborations with Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers, Ayra Starr, Davido and others.
The single 'Aye Kan (Are You Coming Back)' featuring Ayra Starr was released on 27 March 2026 as the second single from HOPE!!.
In September 2025, Kidjo performed at Pharrell Williams' 'Grace for the World' concert at St. Peter's Square in Vatican City, now streaming on Disney+.
Kidjo sold out Carnegie Hall on 2 November 2024 to celebrate 40 years of music and activism.
