Anna Netrebko
A concert by the renowned Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko in Vienna.
Anna Netrebko (born 1971 in Krasnodar) is a Russian soprano widely regarded as one of the defining operatic voices of her generation. Discovered by conductor Valery Gergiev at the Mariinsky Theatre, she rose to global prominence after her 2002 Salzburg Festival Don Giovanni and has since headlined at the Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, La Scala and the Royal Opera House. Over three decades her repertoire shifted from lyric Mozart and Donizetti roles toward the heavier verismo and dramatic Verdi parts she favours today; she has been an exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist since 2003 and was the first classical musician named to Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people.
Netrebko performed a Verdi recital with baritone Ludovic Tézier and pianist Nelson Calzi to mark the 125th anniversary of Verdi's death.
Netrebko sang the title role in Turandot at the Royal Opera House, London, receiving critical acclaim; The Guardian noted her 'vocal richness and the grandeur of her phrasing lift things to a different level.'
Her Tosca performance at the Royal Ballet & Opera was screened in 953 cinemas across 19 countries.
Netrebko led Verdi's La forza del destino as Leonora at Opernhaus Zürich, a return to a major house that had previously avoided booking her.
Netrebko opened the Royal Opera's 2025-26 season in a new production of Puccini's Tosca, her first appearance at the house in six years.
