Asterix is a French comic series created in 1959 by writer René Goscinny and illustrator Albert Uderzo. It follows a small Gaulish village holding out against Roman occupation, with the warrior Asterix and his enormously strong friend Obelix at its centre. The series has been translated into dozens of languages and ranks among the best-selling comics ever published.
