His catalog of 33 self-penned Top 40 hits - from 'Piano Man' (1973) through 'We Didn't Start the Fire' - earned him six Grammy Awards and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999. He stopped recording pop music after 1993's River of Dreams but continued to tour extensively, including a decade-long monthly residency at Madison Square Garden that concluded in July 2024.
