Blawan is the alias of Jamie Roberts, an English DJ and producer from South Yorkshire, now based in Berlin. Working across industrial techno, post-dubstep and deconstructed club music, he built his reputation through a run of EPs on Hessle Audio and R&S Records from 2010 onward - his drum-heavy, mechanically raw sound drawing comparisons to his background as a drummer. His 2025 album SickElixir, released on XL Recordings, received universal critical acclaim and is widely considered his most personal work to date.
Blawan's second studio album SickElixir was released on XL Recordings on 10 October 2025 to universal critical acclaim, scoring 6/6 positive reviews on Metacritic.
Resident Advisor awarded SickElixir a score of 90, calling it 'a masterpiece of slanted techno'.
Pitchfork gave SickElixir a score of 8.0, describing it as a 'brutish, unhinged gestalt' that melds Roberts' discoveries over seven years.
SickElixir appeared in The Quietus and The Wire end-of-year lists for 2025.
Blawan performed a DJ set at the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT) in Montreal as part of a MUTEK-presented event on 10 May 2025.
