About

Buddy Holly (1936-1959) was an American singer, guitarist, and songwriter from Lubbock, Texas, widely regarded as one of the founding fathers of rock and roll. Recording with his band The Crickets, he blended rockabilly, country, and rhythm and blues into a sound that shaped generations of musicians - from the Beatles to Weezer. His career lasted barely two years before he died in a plane crash on February 3, 1959, aged 22; he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.
