About
Bugge Wesseltoft (born 1 February 1964 in Porsgrunn, Norway) is a pianist, composer and producer widely credited with pioneering the nu-jazz sound in Europe through his band New Conception of Jazz and his own Jazzland Recordings label, founded in the mid-1990s. He has won the Norwegian Spellemannprisen three times and received the Buddyprisen - Norway's highest jazz honour - in 2004. Since 2017 he has co-led the Scandinavian piano trio Rymden alongside bassist Dan Berglund and drummer Magnus Öström, both formerly of the legendary e.s.t. His music moves freely between acoustic piano, synthesizers and electronic loops, always with a strong improvisational core.
