Chris Norman (born 25 October 1950 in Redcar, Yorkshire) is an English singer, guitarist and songwriter who rose to fame as the lead vocalist of Smokie, the Bradford rock band that dominated European charts in the 1970s with hits like "Living Next Door to Alice" and "Lay Back in the Arms of Someone". His 1986 solo single "Midnight Lady" - written and produced by Dieter Bohlen - hit number one in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, selling over a million copies across Europe. With more than 20 million records sold worldwide and around 22 albums to his name, Norman remains one of the most enduring British rock voices on the European live circuit.
