Deadbeat is the alias of Scott Monteith, a Canadian musician and sound artist born in Kitchener, Ontario, who has been based in Berlin since 2006. Over more than two decades he has built one of the most substantial catalogues in dub techno - 22 albums, three dozen singles, and a steady stream of collaborations on labels including ~scape, Wagon Repair, Echocord, and his own BLKRTZ imprint. His 2010 mix Radio Rothko is widely cited as a genre-defining document, and his DJ sets draw on a deep knowledge of dub's lineage from Jamaican roots through to contemporary electronic production. Alongside performing and recording, he has led workshops for the Red Bull Music Academy, Ableton, and Microsoft.
Monteith released The Lichen Diaries vol 3 on his BLKRTZ label, the third instalment of his ambient/experimental series issued under his own name.

Monteith shared a 140-minute preview megamix on Bandcamp in January 2025, previewing a large batch of forthcoming releases planned for labels including Echocord, Echo Beach, Bright Sounds, and Lumpuyang.
Deadbeat played London's Ormside Projects in May 2025, one of his most recent documented European club appearances.
