Death Cab for Cutie is an American indie rock band from Bellingham, Washington, founded in 1997 by singer-songwriter Ben Gibbard. They rose to wider recognition with Transatlanticism (2003) and broke into the mainstream with Plans (2005), which reached the US Top Five and went gold. Over eleven studio albums, the band has built a reputation for emotionally precise lyrics and melodic songwriting that has kept them a defining force in indie rock for nearly three decades.
