About

Deep Purple are a British hard rock band formed in Hertford in 1968, widely regarded as one of the founding forces of heavy metal and hard rock alongside Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Their 1972 album Machine Head - home to "Smoke on the Water" and "Highway Star" - remains one of the genre's defining records, and the band has sold over 120 million albums across a career now stretching into its seventh decade. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016, they continue to record and tour with the current lineup of Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Don Airey and guitarist Simon McBride.
