Der Karneval der Tiere

About

Der Karneval der Tiere (The Carnival of the Animals) is a humorous suite for two pianos and chamber orchestra by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns, written in 1886. Its fourteen movements each portray a different animal. The most celebrated movement, The Swan, has long had a life of its own as a standalone concert piece. Saint-Saëns refused to allow public performances of the full suite during his lifetime, fearing it would undermine his reputation as a serious composer.
