Der Messias (Messiah) is an oratorio by Georg Friedrich Handel, composed in 1741 to an English text compiled by Charles Jennens from biblical passages. The work is in three parts, and its best-known section is the "Hallelujah" chorus. It premiered in Dublin in 1742 and has since become one of the most frequently performed choral works in the repertoire.
