Deva Premal (born Jolantha Fries, 2 April 1970 in Nuremberg) is a German contralto who brought Sanskrit mantras to a global mainstream audience. Raised in a household steeped in Eastern spirituality, she was chanting the Gayatri Mantra daily by age five. Together with her partner Miten she has toured the world since 1992, releasing more than a dozen albums; their 2018 record Deva earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Age Album.
