DeVotchKa is an American multi-instrumental ensemble from Denver, Colorado, formed in 1997 by frontman Nick Urata alongside Tom Hagerman, Jeanie Schroder and Shawn King. The band weaves Balkan brass, Mexican folk, Eastern European cabaret and indie rock into a sound entirely their own - their name comes from the Russian word for 'girl'. They broke through to a wider audience with the score to the 2006 film Little Miss Sunshine, which earned them a Grammy nomination, and have since released seven studio albums while Urata has built a parallel career composing for Hollywood films including Paddington and Crazy, Stupid, Love.
