About
Die tote Stadt (The Dead City) is an opera by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, first performed in 1920. Based on Georges Rodenbach's novel Bruges-la-Morte, it follows a man consumed by grief and obsession over his dead wife. The work is a key piece of late Romantic opera and is particularly known for the aria Marietta's Lied.
