Die Walküre is the second opera in Richard Wagner's four-part cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen, first performed in 1870. It follows the twins Siegmund and Sieglinde and the valkyrie Brünnhilde, who defies her father Wotan's command. The work is one of the most frequently staged and vocally demanding pieces in the operatic canon.
