About

Dimmu Borgir is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band formed in 1993 in Jessheim, whose name derives from a volcanic lava field in Iceland meaning "dark castles" in Old Norse. Over three decades they built a reputation for fusing black metal aggression with full orchestral arrangements, recording landmark albums such as "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia" (2001) and "Death Cult Armageddon" (2003) - the latter tracked with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. In May 2026 they released their tenth studio album "Grand Serpent Rising" via Nuclear Blast, their first full-length in eight years.
