Edmund de Waal is a British ceramicist and writer, best known for his memoir „The Hare with Amber Eyes" (2010), an international bestseller tracing the history of a family collection of Japanese netsuke figures across generations. The book follows the fortunes of the Viennese Ephrussi family. De Waal is also a practising ceramicist whose work is held in major collections worldwide.
