About

Egyptian Lover is the stage name of Greg Broussard (born August 31, 1963, Los Angeles), a musician, DJ, producer, and graphic artist who helped shape the West Coast electro-rap sound of the early 1980s. His 1984 single "Egypt, Egypt" - built around the Roland TR-808 drum machine - became a defining record of the era and influenced a generation of producers, from early West Coast hip-hop to contemporary club music. He runs his own Egyptian Empire Records and has remained active as a performer and recording artist for over four decades, releasing the album 1987 in 2025.
